Full Circle: NTU Design Students Breathe New Life into People's Hall

The People's Hall recently played host to the next generation of creative talent, welcoming a group of final-year Furniture Design students from Nottingham Trent University (NTU). The students utilised the Hall's unique architecture and characterful spaces to professionally photograph their final-year work.

Connecting Past and Present in Design

This engagement is particularly meaningful as it links directly back to the Hall's own educational history. Between 1843 and 1854, the People's Hall was home to the Nottingham Government School of Design, a predecessor institution to the modern-day Nottingham Trent University.

Seeing these contemporary design students capturing their innovative furniture pieces within the same walls that once housed early design education in the city brings the building’s history full circle.

It has been a privilege to host NTU's talented students. The Hall has always been a place of learning and creativity, and seeing their high-calibre work against the backdrop of the Georgian architecture truly honours the building’s original purpose as a school of design.

The Perfect Backdrop for Innovation

The students selected various locations within the Hall, utilising the contrast between the historic setting and their modern designs to great effect. The elegant Georgian interiors, grand staircases and richly panelled rooms provided a sophisticated and timeless backdrop, ensuring their portfolios stand out as they launch their professional careers.

It elevated our pieces and gave the photographs a real sense of quality and context that we couldn't find anywhere else.'"]

Fostering Future Creative Partnerships

This successful partnership with Nottingham Trent University highlights the Hall’s commitment to supporting local arts and education, furthering the city's legacy as a centre for design excellence. We look forward to exploring future collaborations that continue to celebrate both the history and the future of Nottingham's creative community.
